MythBound

The video shows gameplay from a demo of a 2D point and click adventure-puzzle game, called MythBound. It is my graduation project, completed during our final year in Vilnius Academy of the Arts together with Urtė Akelaitytė.

MythBound includes elements from Baltic mythology, used as aesthetic and  story inspirations. Two mouse buttons control every action that can be taken in the game. Using items, talking with characters and the game mechanic of jumping between 2 points in the timeline, are all used for completing puzzles and progressing through the story.

A "trailer" we made to show how other potential locations and characters may look if we developed the game fully.

The game is a collaborative project. One of my tasks was designing the main character and consequentially the style of all other characters that show up in the game. Here are moments from the character design process, as well as the design we settled on. We wanted loud and expressive colors so they would stand out in the bright backgrounds.

Additionally, I was responsible for writing the story and dialogue, and outlining the basic puzzles, which were later re-tuned with input from my partner.

Lastly, I worked on all of the animations. The main character and all the side characters were animated using TVPaint, they are all hand drawn frame by frame. Furthermore, all the animations in cutscenes and the trailer video, were also completed by me, mainly using Photoshop and After Effects.

Backgrounds, handled by Urtė, are vector - based and layered in 3D space to achieve a depth effect. Drawn in Photoshop. The engine used to program and build the game was Unity. All components, objects, backgrounds and animations were combined in the game engine, and scripts were written for all necessary game mechanics. The game was programmed by Martynas Treinys and Antanas Skučas.
